Science is everywhere!

Painted Rocks Petroglyph Site

I was thinking... "how lame am I for not putting any pictures on the blog"? So here is my first attempt to upload a picture for all of you to see.

This was in late March when Edwin and I went to Arizona for a week of just relaxing and goofing off (as boring as that sounds you wouldn't believe how much we look forward to doing nothing now in our lives which are all too busy and full of deadlines and decisions). We visited Organ Pipe national monument and Painted Rocks Petroglyph Site. Petroglyphs are patterns chipped into rocks by Indians in the past 1000 years. Apparently rocks out there develop a black patina of dust and minerals and other stuff, and if you chip at it, the you can see the lighter stone underneath.

I thought it was pretty cool....

Sad But True

So the other day, I started noticing that Calvin's laptop was acting really slow. (Background: I don't have my own computer so I just use his laptop since he has his own desktop which he uses most of the time.) Anyhow, I came to the conclusion that I might have accidentally installed a virus or spyware on his laptop so I asked him what I should do. Then the following conversation ensued:

Calvin: Just run Norton Anti-virus.
Alice: I don't know where it is.
Calvin: Did you look under my computer?
Alice: (Picks up the laptop and looks underneath) Nope, it's not there.
Calvin: (Shakes his head) No.... I said look under "My Computer".
Alice: Ohhh....

My Job

I will be working for CGI-Ams, which used to be American Management Systems. They got bought by CGI (a canadian company), and there is one more year of CGI-AMS before the name changes to just CGI. Anyway, the company provides "Business Solutions through Information Technology". Basically, I'd be involved in implementing technology that would allow things to run faster/smoother (and therefore cheaper). Of course, we charge enough so they will break even after five years, at which point we would have to do the whole process over again (don't blame us, blame Gordon Moore). Since I'll be a consultant, I'll get to work on regional projects, mostly in or around DC. Each project runs on average from 3 months to 15 months.

The thing I like is that CGI does lots government work, so I will get to do both private and public work. Since I'm interested in politics, I can experience first hand how the government (slowly) runs. I honestly don't know exactly what I'll be doing, because every time I ask someone I am always told the same thing -- It depends on the project!

Congratulations Bruce!

On your graduation!!!!

Whew I am now *officially* a college grad. We just got our final grades back and I've passed everything with a B or better (surprisingly good for my senoritise semester). My parents came and visited with grandmom and it was a busy 3 days. We took a bunch of pictures, went to a winery, ate at both a peruvian and turkish restaurants. I actually fell asleep during comencement, because it was impossible to hear anything. Also, our speaker was the president of our university. Arnt we supposed to get some celebrity or something?

I'm going to stay in Bloomington for a month or two, and then go back to jersey. Then i'll have a little time before I hae to go to Virginia to go appartment shopping. Thats all for now. Signing off -bruce.
